The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim unharmed and recovered two AK-47 rifles along with live ammunition during a joint security operation in Song Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the operation followed intelligence reports revealing that the abductors of Alhaji Sidiki Isah, a 54-year-old from Tambo Village in Girei Local Government Area, were keeping him at Luro Mountain.
Nguroje stated that the kidnappers had previously demanded a N90 million ransom from the victim’s relatives.
He noted that the mission was conducted on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, who directed the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, swiftly deployed operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit using geospatial intelligence linked to the kidnappers,” the statement said.
According to the police, the tactical squad stormed the suspected hideout and sealed off the mountainous area before coming under gunfire.
“The mountain was strategically cordoned off, and upon sighting the combined security team, the kidnappers opened fire on the operatives,” Nguroje said.
He added that officers reacted promptly and maintained professionalism throughout the confrontation.
“The security team responded professionally and successfully repelled the attackers,” the police spokesperson stated.
Nguroje revealed that two suspected kidnappers were killed during the shootout, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.
“The kidnapped victim was rescued safely without injury and has since been reunited with his family,” he added.
Recovered exhibits from the operation included two AK-47 rifles, 17 rounds of live ammunition, a mobile phone, and charms.
“The items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, seventeen rounds of live ammunition, a handset, charms and others,” the statement said.
The Command further stated that security operatives were continuing search operations in the area to arrest fleeing suspects and recover more weapons.
“The area is currently being combed by Command operatives with a view to apprehending the fleeing suspects,” Nguroje said.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police praised their bravery and professionalism during the operation.
“The Commissioner of Police commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the operatives and collaborating security stakeholders during the operation,” the statement added.
He also reassured residents that the Command would continue intensifying efforts against violent crimes in the state.
“We are committed to combating kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state,” he said, while encouraging residents to share prompt and reliable intelligence with security agencies.
