The Ondo State Police Command has successfully rescued a 26-year-old woman who was kidnapped in Owo and apprehended four individuals suspected to be involved in the crime, following a joint security operation involving police officers, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and vigilante groups.
According to the command, the victim, Miss Ogechi John, was abducted on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Gozako Filling Station along the Emure–Akure Expressway by armed men who arrived in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry without registration plates before escaping with her.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said the command swiftly activated a coordinated response immediately after receiving a distress alert about the incident.
“The Command immediately activated a coordinated response alongside Amotekun, local hunters and vigilantes,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects allegedly disclosed that the abandoned vehicle had been handed over to a herbalist identified as Lawal Lucky of Idimepe Street, Owo, who is currently at large.
The police confirmed that the victim was eventually rescued after sustained pressure and intelligence-led operations and is currently receiving support.
“Most importantly, sustained operational pressure and intelligence-driven efforts by the police culminated in the successful rescue of the victim,” the statement added.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their swift response, describing the operation as a demonstration of professionalism and resilience.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that “criminal elements will continue to find no safe haven within Ondo State,” while urging residents to support security agencies with credible information.
The Command added that efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects and others allegedly connected to the crime, as investigations continue.
