The Kebbi State Police Command has rescued six kidnap victims unhurt in Donko after engaging armed bandits in a fierce gun battle in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Monday.
Abubakar said the rescue was part of ongoing efforts by the command to combat banditry and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He explained that the incident occurred on Saturday, November 2, when about a dozen armed bandits attacked Ukuhu, Tungar Wazga, and Unguwar Chiroma villages, abducting ten residents.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Danko led a combined team of policemen and local vigilantes in pursuit of the kidnappers.
“They intercepted the hoodlums at Marina village, near the Zamfara border, and engaged them in a fierce gun duel,” the statement read.
According to police, the confrontation forced the bandits to abandon some of their captives and retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds.
The rescued victims — Abubakar B. Abubakar (25), Nasiru Magawata (18), Abdul Magawata (15), Buhari Ukuhu (17), Kamalu Magawata (12), and Naziru Magawata (11) — were reunited with their families after undergoing medical evaluations.
The police said efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining four victims and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commending the officers involved, CP Bello M. Sani, the state commissioner of police, praised the DPO and his team for their swift and courageous response.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to provide timely and reliable information to support security operations.
