The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of six law students who were abducted on July 28, 2025, along the Benue-Taraba border.
In a statement released on Friday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, the police revealed that the students were en route to the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School from Anambra State when they were intercepted by kidnappers near the boundary between the two states.
“Please be informed that the police have successfully rescued six law students of the Yola campus, who were abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State, have been safely released and united with their families this morning, August 1, 2025,” the statement read.
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, had earlier raised the alarm about the incident during the NBA’s North-Central Regional Security Summit in Makurdi, describing the incident as a disturbing reflection of the rising insecurity in the region.
