In order to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order, the police have sealed off the Nasarawa House of Assembly Complex.

This action comes in response to the emergence of two speakers for the seventh assembly.

The immediate past Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, who was seeking a third term, and Hon. Daniel Ogazi, a member representing Kokona East constituency, were elected as speakers in separate sittings on Tuesday.

Balarabe-Abdullahi was elected during a session held at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Ogazi emerged as Speaker from the proceedings at the State Assembly complex.

The parallel election of two speakers has created a contentious situation within the assembly, leading to concerns about potential conflicts.

The police have taken the precautionary measure of sealing off the assembly complex to maintain peace and prevent any possible violence.

It is believed that thirteen members-elect, including those from opposition political parties, have expressed their support for Daniel Ogazi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while eleven members have remained loyal to Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, also a member of the APC in the state.

Regarding the sealing off of the assembly complex, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated in a released statement on Wednesday that the action was carried out based on a directive from the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba.

The commissioner made this decision after consulting with other security agencies in the state. The exact reasons behind the directive were not specified in the statement.
