The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 78 senior officers, including 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and 57 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) promoted to ACPs.
The decision was made during the PSC’s second Plenary Meeting, held on Tuesday, 17 December.
PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement issued the same day, revealed that the promotions followed an earlier approval on Monday, 16 December, for the elevation of 11 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General and 16 Deputy Commissioners to full Commissioners.
One notable promotion was that of Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, the former Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance in the Jigawa State Command. Elleman previously served as the Head of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit and Deputy Commissioner of Operations at Zone 7, Abuja.
Ani also noted that the promoted officers underwent both written and oral examinations as part of the plenary process.
He highlighted that issues such as logistics and manpower shortages were identified during the meeting as major challenges facing many police departments, commands, and zones. Addressing these issues, he said, would significantly enhance the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.
