Operatives from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have uncovered an illegal gun manufacturing factory run by a father and his sons, where a variety of firearms were being produced.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph O. Eribo, shared this development on Monday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, where he highlighted the Command’s successes in tackling crime.
Eribo explained that the discovery was made following credible information, prompting a swift police response. While one suspect was apprehended, others managed to flee.
Items recovered from the site included seven newly made single-barrel guns, five newly made double-barrel guns, one special steel double-trigger pistol, one broken single-barrel gun, one trigger-handle walking stick knife, and several cut iron pipes used for gun barrel construction.
Eribo said, “Based on credible information received by the Command, operatives raided a gun-making factory where firearms of various types were fabricated and sold to criminals.
“During the operation, one David Nse Emmanuel was arrested, while his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, and his brothers, who jointly run the business, fled.”
Eribo assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects who managed to flee.
In another operation, the police arrested a suspected child trafficker, Promise Boniface, who had abducted five children from a single mother. Fortunately, the children were rescued unharmed and safely reunited with their parents.
The arrest followed a distress call received on 14 November 2024 at approximately 3:10 pm, where a woman (name withheld) reported that an unknown man had taken her five children on a motorcycle. The motorcycle used in the crime was also recovered.
