The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has introduced a welfare bus programme for its officers and personnel, designed to tackle transportation difficulties and enhance staff welfare.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, revealed that the project received approval from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is set to commence operations on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Speaking in a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, explained that three Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses have been assigned to run along specific routes within the Federal Capital Territory and nearby areas under the scheme.
She noted that the first bus will travel from the Goshen, Auta-Balefi axis, passing through Masaka, Mararaba, and Nyanya, before stopping at Area 11 Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The statement partly read, “Under the scheme, three Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses have been deployed to ply designated routes across the Federal Capital Territory and its environs. The first bus, with registration number NPF 7993 D, will operate from the Goshen, Auta-Balefi axis, passing through Masaka, Mararaba, and Nyanya, and terminating at Area 11 Force Headquarters, Abuja.
“The second bus, with registration number NPF 7994 D, will take off from Zuba Divisional Headquarters, moving through Madalla, Abubakar Police Barracks, Brick City, Kubwa, Dutse Junction, and the Secretariat, also terminating at Area 11 Force Headquarters.
“The third bus, with registration number NPF 7992 D, will operate from Kuje Divisional Headquarters, covering Kuje Police Barracks, Airport Road, Lugbe, and the Stadium axis, terminating at Area 11 Force Headquarters. All buses are scheduled to depart their respective take-off points daily at 0615 hours (6:15 AM).”
Sanusi praised the Inspector-General of Police for endorsing the initiative, describing it as an important move toward boosting personnel welfare, improving working conditions, and supporting overall well-being.
He encouraged officers to make full use of the buses, emphasizing that better welfare would lead to stronger service delivery, discipline, and operational performance.
The welfare bus initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the welfare and efficiency of its workforce in response to increasing transportation expenses and commuting challenges in the Federal Capital Territory.
It also highlights a wider commitment by police leadership to improve working conditions and raise morale across the force.
