Police vow to apprehend criminals who killed vigilantes in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has pledged to track down the criminals responsible for the murder of four vigilante operatives and the serious injury of two others in the state.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, made this commitment on Monday.

Ikenga explained that the armed assailants, driving unregistered Lexus 330 and Honda FJ Cruiser SUVs, attacked Ekeagu Abatete, where they killed three members of the vigilante group and injured another unsuspecting member of the public.

The attack continued at Ukpo junction in Dunukofia Local Government Area, where, during a police pursuit, the assailants killed another vigilante member, wounded another, and set two vehicles on fire.

The police confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered, and the injured are receiving medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the families, friends, and community of the victims, assuring that the police would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this barbaric act are arrested and brought to justice.
