The Kogi State Police Command announced the arrest and imprisonment of Aminu Muhammed, a police officer, for alleged robbery.

The cop was accused of robbing the homes of those near his duty station, the ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.

William Ayah, a police spokeswoman in the state, confirmed the event on Tuesday and stated that the police inspector has been arrested and is currently detained.

He stated that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, has ordered a thorough inquiry into the alleged misbehaviour.

An inspector’s luck ran out following the activities of a notorious gang specializing in robbing houses of household items and cars in the state.

A source revealed to our reporter that a stolen car was discovered at the workshop of a policeman’s panel beater, who was already working on changing the car’s color in Ochadamu, located in the Ofu Local Government Area.

Individuals familiar with the vehicle and aware of the robbery incident on June 14, 2024, quickly raised the alarm upon spotting the car.

The car’s number plate had been changed to an Abuja registration, and the officer presented a backdated receipt from a car dealer, dated 2020, as proof of purchase.

The panel beater had primed the car for a color change when the alarm was raised, leading to his arrest by officers from the Quick Response Unit (QRU) attached to the Police Area Command in Idah.

Upon arriving at the ‘A’ Division in Lokoja with the apprehended panel beater, it was discovered that the criminals responsible for the robbery had already been arrested for another crime.

One of the gang members, who was also on the police wanted list for other offenses, confessed to the robbery and implicated the police officer as the mastermind.

He admitted that they were contracted to rob the house of the car owner specifically to obtain the vehicle for the inspector.
