In response to former Governor Bello Matawalle’s claim that the vehicles impounded at his residences were his personal properties, the Zamfara State Police Command has called on him to provide evidence and retrieve the vehicles that belong to him.
According to reports, Matawalle stated that the majority of the vehicles confiscated by security agencies from his residences in Gusau and Maradun were purchased before he assumed office as Governor.
However, in a press statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Police Command, SP Yazid Abubakar, stated that individuals who believe their vehicles were wrongly seized are advised to present proof of ownership in order to claim their vehicles.
Abubakar said, “Persons who feel their vehicles were wrongfully taken while executing search warrants during the course of this investigation are advised to produce proof of ownership to claim such vehicles”.
Abubakar maintained that investigations into the issue of the missing vehicles were still ongoing. He called on the general public who have useful information about the missing vehicles to come forward to assist the security agents.
The press statement reads in parts as follows:
“Zamfara state police command is currently investigating a complaint of missing Zamfara state government vehicles”.
“Persons who feel their vehicles were wrongfully attacked while executing search warrants during the course of this investigation are advised to produce proof of ownership to claim such vehicles.
“Members of the public will be duly informed of the outcome of this Investigation”
“They are further advised to desist from spreading false information to mislead the public which is capable of inciting disturbance that can attract arrest and prosecution.”
