In his ongoing engagement with various groups and stakeholders ahead of the planned nationwide protests, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu met with civil society and self-determination groups on Friday to discuss the need for peace in Lagos State.

With the hunger and hardship protest scheduled for August 1 approaching, the governor emphasized that while the state government supports citizens’ right to express themselves, it must be done lawfully.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, on Friday via X, Sanwo-Olu conveyed this message to the civil rights groups.

He urged the CSOs to ensure that the protesters remain peaceful and orderly.

Sanwo-Olu condemned the wanton destruction of public and private property that occurred during the October 2020 protest.

He also noted that some individuals issuing threats might have ulterior motives aimed at disrupting law and order.
