Protest: Zamfara Govt orders closure of Schools, suspends exams

The Zamfara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools in the state ahead of a protest against economic hardship scheduled to begin on Thursday.

In a circular addressing principals, head teachers, private schools, and the general public, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education in Zamfara, Barira Bagobiri, stated that the action was adopted to prevent any security threat to pupils.

She went on to say that the ongoing JLC examination will be suspended, and a new date for its continuation will be announced soon.

“This is to inform the general public that the Hon. Commissioner of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki has approved the immediate closure of all schools across the state on the 1st August 2024,” the circular read.

“The measure has been taken to avert any security threat that may befall our students on the way to school due to the planned nationwide protest. Similarly, the ongoing JLC Exams is suspended and a new date for its continuation will be announced in due course.”
