Protesters demonstrating against the harsh economy have been restricted to specific locations across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Funsho Adegboye, King Square in Benin City has been designated for the peaceful protest in Edo South.

In a press briefing late on Wednesday, he assured the public that the police would act professionally and civilly, protecting the peaceful protesters and potentially providing water and ambulance services.

However, he warned that gatherings at other venues under the guise of a protest would be considered criminal and strongly frowned upon.

The commissioner also announced that a situation room had been set up at the command headquarters for feedback and updates.

Areas outside the designated protest location on Thursday were notably quieter than usual. At Upper Mission Road in the state capital, a primarily residential area, the road was almost empty of commuters and commercial vehicles between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
