Residents and truck drivers in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, have barricaded the Benin-Agbor Road, bringing vehicular traffic to a halt.

An articulate truck driver who spoke to reporters stated the federal or state governments should fix the road because it is too horrible to ignore.

He emphasised that if the federal government did not repair the road, the state government should step in and make it passable.

A couple of bystanders, who spoke behind camera, insisted they knew it was only a matter of time for this outburst to occur and they aren’t taken by surprise, saying the road is actually too bad.

They said road users have shown incredible patience with the authorities over the state of the Benin-Agbor road.

A businessman in the area said his business has taken a hit due to the state of the road and businesses have taken a serious turn for the worse and some businesses are folding up already.

A volunteer traffic warden well known in the area alleged marginalization of Edo State by the Federal Government as the reason the road has been ignored.
