The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended 81 individuals suspected of being involved in the violence and vandalism that erupted following the nationwide hunger protest in the state.
In a statement, Sokoto Police spokesperson Ahmed Rufai reported that these suspects were detained while committing acts of violence against civilians and damaging government property in Sokoto metropolis.
Rufai noted that the prompt action of the police and other security forces helped contain the violence and prevent further looting.
He added that while the police acknowledge the right of citizens to protest, they will not tolerate unlawful behavior.
