PSC calls for replacement of IGP over alleged recruitment controversy

The Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP)Kayode Egbetokun due to his alleged interference in the recent recruitment of police constables.

At a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, the union also accused senior officers within the Nigerian Police Force of attempting to insert unauthorized names into the recruitment list.

Union members, who expressed their grievances through protest songs, criticized the NPF’s reactions as diversionary tactics. They claimed the NPF aims to distract the president from the inadequate state of police training schools, which are unprepared to train new recruits due to poor facilities.

This call for action follows the Police Service Commission’s recent announcement of 10,000 successful candidates from the latest recruitment exercise.

The NPF subsequently rejected this list, labeling the recruitment process as fraudulent.
