Radio station in Imo disputes closure by NBC

The management of the Ozisa FM Radio station in Owerri, Imo State, has disputed the rumor that the Nigeria Broadcasting Cooperation had ceased broadcasting on that frequency.

Following the news report on the execution of 14 wedding guests on July 17 in Awomama, Oru East Local Government Area, Imo State, by Ebubeagu Security agents, news on Sunday spread like wildfire that NBC had shut down the radio station on the purported instruction of the state government.

However, the radio station claimed that it had been “temporarily suspended” rather than closed down in a statement released in Owerri.

The statement read, “That Ozisa Fm was not shut down but temporarily suspended. The matter is being handled by the Appropriate Authorities. We appreciate the understanding of the National Broadcasting Commission. NBC.

“That Ozisa Radio Station is owned not by the Catholic Church but by Ozisa Foundation for Peace and Social Development and is on the church premises on leased property.

“We would want to discourage all speculations and inciting statements. Ozisa Radio will continue to offer a platform for the community to contribute and foster civic responsibility and integration.”
