The Delta State flood calamity has affected 1,350 homes, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society has provided food to them.
The gifts were delivered by Chief Bolaji Anani, National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, at the 2022 flood intervention’s flag-off ceremony at Ewoma Primary School in the state’s Ivrogbor-Irri Isoko South local government area.
Anani claimed that the Society carried out the registration utilizing the required selection criteria that were created with community members and utilized to determine who was most in need of the intervention.
He said, “The Red Cross Society planned to distribute relief items or cash to about 180,000 flood-affected persons in 23 most affected states, totalling 29,700 households.
“The first phase of the distribution is simultaneously flagged off in Delta and Kogi States.
“I want to use this occasion to thank those who donated, those who would still donate and all who had contributed in one way or the other to make the exercise a success.”
Mr. Issac Omoyero spoke on behalf of the Local Government Council Chairman, Mr. Victor Asassa, who praised the Society for recognizing the plight of those in his local government region and stepping in to help.
Additionally, Mr. Christopher Ebegbare, the chairman of the community, praised the Society for picking his neighborhood to serve as the state’s starting point for the distribution of aid.
The 1,350 recipients included the local governments of Isoko South, Ndokwa East, and Ughelli South, who received a 25kg bag of rice, a 25kg bag of garri, a 30kg bag of beans, as well as palm oil.
Some of the recipients expressed their gratitude to the Nigerian Red Cross Society for the kind gesture and called it unprecedented.
