The House of Representatives has called the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, for a briefing on the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer program, which aims to assist 15 million households.
During a session on Tuesday, the House of Representatives raised concerns about the management of the program. They specifically questioned the lack of transparency, which has given rise to fraudulent activities.
The Minister is expected to provide comprehensive information regarding data collection and fund distribution.
In mid-October, President Bola Tinubu introduced the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer program, aimed at benefiting 15 million households.
In his first Independence Day address to the nation on October 1, 2023, the President introduced a cash transfer program with a focus on supporting vulnerable individuals.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs had stated that the program would encompass 15 million households, equivalent to 62 million Nigerians.
She also explained that each beneficiary would receive a monthly transfer of N25,000 for a duration of three months, totaling N75,000 for each recipient.
