On Monday, a few locals and men of the Osun State Fire Service prevented Saheed Oladeji from attempting suicide in Osogbo.

Oladeji is alleged to have plunged into the River Osun early one morning from underneath the Gbodofon bridge in Osogbo.

However, when Oladeji prepared to carry out the deed, a few individuals along the bridge swiftly called for help and made an effort to save him.

Further information revealed that firefighters pulled him out of the river using a rope after they arrived on the scene later.

Also on Thursday, an unknown woman apparently received a call before jumping off Gbodofon Bridge into the Osun River.

Oladeji said in a brief video taken after his rescue that he lived alone in Osogbo while his wife and kids lived in Lagos.

Residents told personnel in the Service that this was Oladeji’s third attempt at suicide, according to Ibraheem Adekunle, a spokesperson for the Osun State Fire Service, who confirmed the occurrence.

“We received a distress call, and men immediately moved to the scene. We rescued the man. He had already jumped into the river.

“People said the latest attempt by the man, who gave his name as Saheed Oladeji, was his third attempt to take his life,” Adekunle said.
