The residents of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, on Sunday reportedly invaded and broke into and stole goods from a warehouse where palliatives were stored
However, it is unclear whether the subsidy palliatives provided by President Bola Tinubu to states to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal were among the items stolen by the hungry residents.
The Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (BYSEMA) confirmed that the warehouse was invaded at around 7:45 pm on Sunday, just an hour after the Director-General, Walamam Igrubia, and some BYSEMA personnel had left the premises. The agency added that the warehouse was used to store food items during the 2022 flood in the state.
The Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (BYSEMA) condemned the invasion of the warehouse by unidentified persons and also condemned the attempt by opposition elements in the state to politicize the incident.
