Rival cult group clash claims two life in Ogun

Two persons have been reportedly killed on Sunday in a cult clash in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

The victims, purportedly affiliated with the Eiye and Aye confraternity groups, were reportedly gunned down in various locations across the metropolis.

According to reports, the killings were in retaliation for the death of Olumide Ifeoluwa, a well-known area figure and member of the Aye confraternity, who was shot dead by suspected members of the Eiye cult group three weeks prior.

The first victim, believed to be associated with the Eiye cult group, was fatally shot at Alogi junction in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta. The second victim, identified as Timo Olukayode and a member of the Aye confraternity, was shot and his head was also bludgeoned with a stone at Bode-Olude.

In response to inquiries, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Olukayode’s body had been placed in the morgue of the State Hospital in Ijaiye.

She said, “At about 1300hrs, the DPO received information from members of the public that an unknown man was being chased by a group of thugs who were suspected to be cultists.

He was chased to the Dopamu backstreet via Bode Olude to Miliki intersection down to Elega.

“A police team led by DPO Adatan and DPO Elega visited the scene and encountered the lifeless body of a young man in a pool of his blood, his head broken with stone. Police intervened immediately and evacuated his body to the Ijaiye Hospital mortuary.”

She further mentioned that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had initiated an investigation into the incident, and efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible for the act.

“The Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered that a discreet investigation be carried out on the incident and the perpetrators be brought to book.
