Amild drama unfolded in court on Friday as several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) filed a lawsuit against the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 24 other lawmakers.
According to Channels, the argument was between two lawyers, each claiming the right to represent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had applied to be joined in the matter.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) also sought to be joined in the case.
As of the time of filing this report, the hearing of the case between the CSOs and Martin Amaewhule, along with the 24 other lawmakers, had commenced at the Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court.
The CSOs are petitioning the court to declare the lawmakers’ seats vacant following their defection from the PDP to the APC.
