The newly elected Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Israel Abosi, has officially assumed office at the council secretariat in Isiokpo.

This transition comes less than 24 hours after the secretariat was set ablaze by arsonists on Monday.

Supporters gathered outside, chanting solidarity songs and challenging their political rivals to approach the council secretariat.

In a related incident, both the Ikwerre and Emohua Local Government Council secretariats were torched yesterday following the withdrawal of police officers assigned to secure the 23 council secretariats by Commissioner of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The situation has escalated into a chaotic uproar, marked by blame and counter-blame, prompting President Bola Tinubu to direct the Nigerian Police Force to ensure security is reinstated for all 23 Local Government secretariats.
