Federal High Court Justice Donatus Okorowo in Abuja has prolonged the temporary order preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from initiating any measures against the 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Upon an application by the lawmakers’ counsel, Steve Adehi, Justice Okorowo prolonged the order.
He emphasized that, in accordance with Order 26, Rule 10 of the Federal High Court, the court possesses discretionary authority to approve the request in the pursuit of justice.
The judge expressed being convinced by the arguments presented by the lawmakers’ counsel, asserting that granting the order would serve the interests of justice.
Consequently, Justice Okorowo adjourned the proceedings to January 24 for further hearing.
