A total of 25 passengers have been burnt to death in a ghastly accident in Aloma in Ofu local government area of Kogi State, LEADERSHIP reports.

The accident occurred on Sunday morning when a fully loaded Toyota Sienna bus collided with a Toyota Hiace bus and another articulated vehicle.

One of the eyewitnesses said the two vehicles collided in an attempt to negotiate a pothole on the road and caught fire immediately, burning all the occupants to death.

Another eyewitness dislosed that the accident, which happened in front of Aloma Teachers’ College, involved two buses and a trailer.

“All the passengers in the Toyota bus, including the driver, were burnt to death.

Those in the Sienna bus too were burnt, with no survivors. An articulated vehicle that was packed near the scene of the accident also caught fire in the process and was burnt to ashes. A house close to the area was also destroyed by the raging inferno.

We are yet to confirm if there is any survivor, except those in the packed articulated vehicle,” he said.

According to him, the villagers could not do anything to rescue the trapped passengers because of the absence of combustible fighting equipment.

When the Kogi State Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Samuel Ayodeji, was contacted, he could not respond because of a meeting of the command.
