There was panic, on Thursday, in Iside village, Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Council of Enugu State, as a woman allegedly disappeared with a neighbour’s two children, The Guardian reports.

Though the name of the kids could not be ascertained, sources said they are a seven-year-old girl and her five-year-old brother.

It was gathered that the incident happened after the children returned from church.

A source said the two kids who hail from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, returned from church service in the afternoon without meeting their mother.

“But, a neighbour, a lady who parked into their compound less than two weeks ago with a mat and a gas cylinder, bolted with the two children.

“The only thing we know is that the strange lady asked the kids to accompany her to refill her gas cylinder and that was the last time she was seen,” the source said.

According to The Guardian, the landlord of the compound, Benjamin Ogbodo-Ene, has been arrested by the police in connection with the disappearance of the children.

Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu South chapter, Ozo Emmanuel Ugwu, described the incident as an abomination and charged the security agents to ensure that the lady is apprehended and not allow any harm befall the children.

“This is an abomination. I urge the security agents to ensure that the woman is arrested and prosecuted and to also ensure that no harm happens to the kids,” Ugwu said.
Spokesperson for Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, was yet to react to the incident at press time.
