The Kebbi State Police Command says it has launched an investigation into reports of the alleged resurgence of the “Sai Malam” group in Argungu Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the command was acting on actionable intelligence and was working to verify the claims to establish the true situation.

The police clarified that the group has not been officially designated as a terrorist organisation under any existing proscription order.

According to the statement, some suspects linked to the group were previously arrested and prosecuted in Zuru in February 2026 over alleged criminal activities.

The command said exhibits recovered during the operation included suspected counterfeit currencies in different denominations, including the Nigerian naira, United States dollar, CFA franc and Libyan dinar, as well as suspected ritual items and other materials believed to be connected to the case.

However, the police noted that no firearms were recovered from the suspects during the investigation.

The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state, assuring residents that all criminal activities would be addressed in line with the law.

It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
