On Thursday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, revealed that security agencies have identified a Senator allegedly sponsoring protests in Abuja. Wike shared this information during a press briefing following a security council meeting in the nation’s capital.

While he did not name the Senator, Wike accused the lawmaker of providing food for the protesters, which he described as a form of sponsorship. “At the appropriate time, security agencies will invite the senator to explain why they are sponsoring activities against the government,” Wike stated.

He also advised protesters in Abuja to comply with a court order and restrict their demonstrations to the MKO Abiola Stadium. The minister explained that intelligence reports suggested that some individuals might attempt to hijack the peaceful protests, which is why authorities want demonstrators to gather in one controlled location.

Wike emphasized that he is not opposed to protests, as long as they are conducted lawfully. He commended the protesters in Abuja for maintaining peace and avoiding violence.

Additionally, Wike reassured that the Federal Government is open to dialogue with the protesters. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is actively working to alleviate the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
