The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s removal of Babatunde Irukera as CEO/Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The Senate’s approval on Wednesday followed the consideration of the Executive Communication, which stated that the Senate would consider President Bola Tinubu’s request to remove Babatunde Irukera as Chief Executive/Vice-Chairman of the FCCPC in accordance with Sections 8(1)(b) and (2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, 2018, as presented by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, APC, Ekiti Central.

In January, President Tinubu requested approval from the Senate to remove Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Babatunde Irukera from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCC).

This was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read in plenary.

The letter stated, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 8(2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Act 2018.” I now request that the Senate confirm Babatunde Irukera’s resignation as Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, effective January 8.
