The senate has confirmed Aminu Maida as the substantive executive vice-chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The upper legislative chamber confirmed Maida on Thursday after considering a report from its committee on communications.

Maida had appeared before the committee for screening after his nomination by President Bola Tinubu in October.

At the time, the president also appointed Tola Odeyemi as the postmaster general of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and Vincent Olatunji as the head of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

While presenting his report to his colleagues, Bilbis Ikra, senator representing Zamfara central and chairman of the communications committee, said Maida meets the requirements to hold the office that he has been nominated for.

Ikra said there was no petition against Maida’s nomination, adding that he also passed security checks from the relevant agencies.

The Zamfara senator then recommended that Maida be confirmed.

Maida was confirmed as the executive vice-chairman of NCC when his nomination was put to a voice vote by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
