Olukayode Ariwoola, a judge, has been confirmed by the Senate to serve as Nigeria’s actual Chief Justice.
After a little over an hour of drilling and questioning by the senate, Ariwoola was officially confirmed at around 12:55.
The Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir, made the motion to show before the plenary at 11:35 a.m.
The screening procedure had been requested to be moved up from where it was posted on the order paper by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Gobir made a motion for the Senate to convene the Committee of the Whole to undertake the screening and suspend any applicable laws to permit the entrance of acting Chief Justice Ariwoola and his entourage.
After the senators by Lawan, the Senate adopted the motions.
Following that, the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Ariwoola, all Justices of the Supreme Court, the Presidents of the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the National Industrial Court, as well as the Secretary of the National Judicial Council, entered the chambers and took their seats.
Senator Babajide Omoworare, Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, served as the delegation’s leader.
