The Senate on Tuesday confirmed all 34 nominees for the governing boards of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and the North West Development Commission (NWDC) during a plenary session led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Mark Okoye was confirmed as Managing Director and CEO of the SEDC, while Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji was confirmed for the NWDC.

The confirmation followed a report from the Ad-Hoc Committee on Regional Development Commissions, chaired by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, which affirmed the nominees’ competence.

Efforts to delay the process were overruled as the Senate resolved to proceed, unanimously approving the nominees after committee deliberations.

The NWDC board comprises 14 members, with Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi as Chairman and Ma’aji as Managing Director.

The SEDC board, led by Chairman Dr Emeka Nworgu, includes 18 members, with Mark Okoye as Managing Director and other key appointments for finance, projects, and rural development.

The confirmations came after President Bola Tinubu submitted a revised nominee list, marking progress in operationalising these regional commissions.
