The Senate has condemned the ongoing implementation of the single payment system, describing it as a major obstacle to Nigeria’s economic progress.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio raised these concerns during Thursday’s plenary session, stating that the system was hampering development and should be abolished immediately.
He called for a complete overhaul to streamline economic operations and prevent further delays in national growth.
Lawmakers criticised the centralised payment policy, which mandates over 700 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to process payments through a single office.
According to them, the policy has resulted in inefficiencies, project delays, and diminished public trust, particularly in constituencies awaiting critical infrastructure projects.
