Senate grants financial autonomy for local governments
The Senate has approved financial autonomy for the state’s state legislatures, judiciary, and local governments.
This was revealed during House voting sessions on the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution (Fifth Alteration) Bills, 2022 report on Tuesday.
Senators, however, voted against a pension for the legislature’s presiding officers during the report’s debate.
Out of a total of 88 Senators who registered to vote on the bill, 34 voted in favor and 53 voted against it.
A bill to override Presidential Veto in Constitution Alteration was also defeated, as was a bill to override Presidential Veto in ordinary money bills.
