Senate minority whip defects to NDC over ADC crisis

Senate Minority Whip, Senator Tony Nwoye, has dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), blaming internal crises and ongoing court cases within the party.

His resignation letter was read during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who thereafter directed the Clerk of the Senate to update the chamber’s records accordingly.

In the letter, Nwoye, who represents Anambra South, confirmed his exit from the ADC and his move to the NDC.

He attributed his decision to deep divisions within the party and multiple litigations at the Federal High Court, which he said have undermined its formation, unity, and stability.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and my intention to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The decision has become necessary due to internal divisions and the ongoing multiple litigations at the Federal High Court and court judgments affecting the party, which unfortunately affected the creation and stability of the party,” Nwoye said.

Senate President Akpabio wished him well in his new political platform.

Report stated earlier that the defection comes shortly after 18 lawmakers, including 17 members of the House of Representatives and one senator, also left the ADC for the NDC.

The development follows earlier exits by prominent opposition figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, further weakening the opposition coalition in the National Assembly.
