Senate president officially declares Umahi, Giadam’s seats vacant

Senate President Godswill Akpabio declares vacant the seats of Senators David Umahi (representing Ebonyi-South) and Ibrahim Giadam (representing Yobe-East) due to their appointments as ministers.

The announcement was made by Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary session in Abuja according to reports. Akpabio cited section 68, sub-section (1)(d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the basis for declaring vacancies in the seats.

Consequently, he urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly initiate the by-election process for the two senatorial districts.
