Senate shifts plenary over governorship polls

The originally scheduled Senate plenary has been postponed to March 21, 2023.

The last time the Red chamber met, the plenary session had been postponed to Tuesday, March 14, 2023 because of the governorship elections.

To give senators running for governorships the opportunity to participate in the elections and campaigns, Senate President Ahmad Lawan moved the plenary to March 14.

He said, “We have to adjoin for all of us to participate in the campaigns and elections of the governors and states assembly members.”

The Senate Clerk, Chinedu Akubueze, announced a further postponement of the plenary in a copy of the document.

A copy of the memo received by our correspondent stated, “This is to inform all Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the Senate in Plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday, March 14, 2023 to Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

“All distinguished senators are by this notice requested to resume sitting in plenary on Tuesday March 21, 2023 by 10am prompt, please.”

The Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, Sens. Aishatu Binani (APC-Adamawa), Haliru Jika (NNPP-Bauchi), and Sandy Onor (PDP-Cross River). are among the senators running for governorship positions.

APC-Kadana Senator Uba Sani, APC-Taraba Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, APC-Oyo Senator Teslim Folarin, APC-Akwa Ibom Senator Albert Bassey.
