The Nigerian Senate will commence a two-day public hearing on tax reform bills from Monday, as part of efforts to revamp the country’s tax system and enhance revenue generation.
The hearing, organised by the Senate Committee on Finance, will include consultations with key government officials and 71 critical stakeholders.
Following a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sani Musa, emphasised that the hearing follows extensive engagements with relevant stakeholders.
According to Senator Musa, the session will be thorough and transparent, ensuring all concerns are addressed for the best possible economic outcome for Nigeria.
Next week’s discussions will focus on the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill and the Nigerian Revenue Services Bill on Monday, while the Nigerian Tax Administration Bill and the Nigerian Tax Bill will be debated on Tuesday.
Several high-profile officials are expected to participate, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji; Statistician-General and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran; as well as the Ministers of Petroleum, Trade and Investment, and other key figures.
