The Senate has asked its committees on health and primary health care to probe the abandoned N400 billion National Primary Health Centre project.

A federal lawmaker Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe in a motion during Wednesday’s plenary session said the project was initiated by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2006 to build national primary health centres in each of the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.

He further explained that to achieve this project, the Federal Government deducted monies from the excess crude account of all the 774 local governments areas monthly which was deposited in Platinum Habib bank now Keystone bank until the funds required for the project are realised.

Senator Oloriegbe, however, said some of the projects began but have been abandoned at various stages while the majority of them were never started despite huge sums of money released to subcontractors.
