Concerned about the escalating insecurity in the nation, the Senate decided on Thursday to call upon the service chiefs.

The upper house made this decision on Thursday following discussions on the abduction of five female students from the Federal University Dunsin-Ma in Katsina state on Wednesday.

Those slated for summons include General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff.

Also set to be invited are Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, and Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.

The lawmakers asked security agencies to do more to rescue the female students and corps members kidnapped by terrorists in Zamfara State.

They also urged the military to launch special operations to drive out bandits in the North-West and other parts of the country. Additionally, they called on the Federal Government to address the shortage of staff in the armed forces and police.

The senators also underscored the importance of establishing state police as a potential solution to the security issues in the country.

However, a specific date for the scheduled meeting with the service chiefs has not been set yet.
