The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorcha Ayu, has opted to retract his appeal aimed at contesting his ousting from the position of the party’s national chairman.

In 2023, the executive committee of the PDP in Igyorov ward, Gboko Local Government Area of Kogi State, suspended Ayu on grounds of alleged anti-party activities. They also alleged his failure to remit membership dues and abstention from voting in the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Benue State.

Expressing discontent with the party’s decision, Senator Ayu resorted to legal action to challenge his dismissal.

However, a Federal High Court ruling in June of the previous year upheld the party’s decision to dismiss Senator Ayu. Consequently, he lodged an appeal, which he has now retracted.

The withdrawal of Ayu’s appeal was communicated through a notice labeled CA/MK/88/2024 SUIT NO: MHC/85/2023 dated April 15, and disclosed to Channels Television on Wednesday.

It read in part, “Take notice that the appellant herein intends and doth hereby wholly withdraw the appeal against the respondents filed on the 27th day of June 2023 vide Notice of Appeal dated the 26th day of June 2023.”
