Senator Marafa quits APC over ‘injustice’

Senator Kabiru Marafa has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Zamfara State confirmed his exit in a text message to Channels Television on Sunday.

His confirmation followed a meeting of his political structure last week, during which leaders unanimously agreed to leave the APC, citing injustice, neglect, and worsening insecurity in Zamfara.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the group expressed concern over the state’s alarming security situation, referencing recent figures that ranked Zamfara as the state with the highest number of kidnapping cases in Nigeria.

They accused the Federal Government of politicising security during the Kaura Namoda bye-election, alleging that security forces were deployed to guarantee APC’s electoral victory rather than protect citizens.

On federal appointments, Marafa’s loyalists condemned what they called deliberate marginalisation of Zamfara, despite the state’s significant role in delivering APC’s 2023 presidential victory. They noted that while other North-West states secured multiple ministerial slots, Zamfara received only one. Communities ravaged by banditry, they added, had been largely ignored in federal interventions.

The communiqué, signed by Chairman Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara and Secretary Dr Mannir Bature Tsafe, stated that the group would soon announce its next political direction in line with the aspirations of the Zamfara people.
