Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to promptly prosecute and publicly parade suspects arrested over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

He said those behind the incident must face the full weight of the law to deter others from committing similar crimes.

Speaking during Wednesday’s Senate plenary, Ningi warned that any delay in prosecuting the suspects could weaken public confidence in the country’s justice system.

“What is important going forward now is to take a cue. Now we have people arrested, they must be paraded, prosecuted and let the law take its full course,” he said.

“Delayed prosecution will create another impression that something is wrong. I therefore call on the security agency to prosecute, parade, and use them as an example.”

The senator was referring to the abduction of pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by armed men.

The victims regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity. They were rescued on Friday during a joint operation by security agencies.
