Seven injured as commercial bus crash in Lagos

A commercial bus flipped over on Monday in Lagos, injuring seven people as the driver attempted to avoid an approaching car.

The disaster happened at Super, inside Ile-Epo, in the Abule Egba region of Lagos State, according to Adebayo Taofiq, a spokesman for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who confirmed the incident.

“It involved a blue Mazda Bus with registration number AGF 991 YC.

“The driver was over-speeding and in an attempt to dodge the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit that was coming, the bus hit the wall on the BRT lane, and the vehicle summersaulted.

“We have seven passengers in the bus, all of them were seriously injured, LASTMA officers rescued them and took them to Ile-epo General Hospital,” he said.

Officers from the agency, according to him, were on the scene and made sure that all the bus passengers were quickly saved.

LASTMA issued a warning to commercial bus drivers urging them to halt speeding and follow all traffic laws.

Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, asked road users, especially commercial bus drivers, to maintain decorum. “They should stop plying BRT corridor”, he said.
