Seven persons were injured on Tuesday following the collapse of a storey building under construction along Oyemekun Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that construction workers were at the site when the building suddenly gave way at about 3:30 pm.

Videos shared from the scene captured sympathisers and rescue workers helping to pull victims trapped under the rubble.

The injured persons were rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical care.

Sunday Olajide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Ondo State, who inspected the site, said the state government would carry out a comprehensive investigation to ascertain both the immediate and remote causes of the collapse.

Olajide cautioned developers against using substandard materials, emphasising that public safety must be given top priority.

He also advised developers to ensure they obtain all necessary permits and approvals before commencing any construction work.

The Ondo State Government has since sealed the site and stated that further actions would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
