Asiya Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and her husband, Inuwa Uba, had their marriage annulled by the Kano State Upper Sharia Court on Thursday under Islamic law.

Asiya Ganduje, the daughter of the governor of Kano State, had earlier requested a divorce from the court through her attorney, Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, on the grounds that she was tired of the situation and was prepared to return the N50,000 she had received as dowry.

Umar I. Umar, the respondent’s attorney, responded by claiming that Asiya was in possession of various goods that belonged to his client and that the plaintiff’s claim went beyond the dowry problem alone.

The plaintiff would not give up her right to a divorce, Asiya’s attorney stated earlier in his answer to the legal issue.

The woman solely filed her divorce petition, according to the plaintiff’s attorney.

The evidence presented during the trial, according to the trial judge Mallam Abdullahi Haliru, proved that the plaintiff received the sum of N50,000.

He claimed that the dowry, which is intended to be the foundation of the marriage, was the ground on which the court rendered its decision.

Asiya was told by the judge to return the N50,000 dowry.

After the verdict was announced, the respondent’s attorney, Umar, addressed the court and asked that it send him a copy of the case file. He also stated that he intended to appeal the decision to the Upper Court for review.
