Shettima decorates new acting IGP, Egbetokun

Barely 24 hours after his appointment as the new acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has been officially decorated with his new rank by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the State House.

The decoration ceremony, held at 1 pm, was attended by various dignitaries, including Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser; Hope Uzodinma, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum; Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff; George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Usman Alkali, the immediate past Inspector-General of Police.

The new police chief, who spoke to journalists shortly afterward, said he feels “like a tiger ready to devour Nigeria’s internal enemies” as he prepares to assume office at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

In a drastic change of guard on Monday night, President Bola Tinubu approved the immediate retirement of the Chief of Defence Staff, all the nation’s service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali, as well as the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali.

Tinubu consequently appointed Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser; Maj. Gen. C.G Musa, Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; AVM H.B Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, DIG Kayode Egbetokun, Acting Inspector-General of Police, and Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence.
