Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Friday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirmed him as the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The meeting came shortly after the APC officially unveiled the Tinubu-Shettima ticket during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

Shettima reportedly visited the president to express his appreciation for being retained as Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the next presidential election.

His retention puts an end to weeks of speculation over whether the APC would replace him on the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

By retaining the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, the ruling party will head into the 2027 election with the same presidential team that won the 2023 poll.

Earlier on Friday, the President’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, announced that Tinubu had submitted his presidential nomination form to the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

In a post on his X handle, Dare disclosed that Tinubu emerged as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted his nomination form to the APC NWC as our sole presidential candidate for 2027. He has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate,” Dare wrote.

Tinubu and Shettima’s nomination forms were presented to APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, by the President’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.

The event was attended by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, APC governors, members of the National Working Committee, the APC caucus in the National Assembly, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other party leaders and stakeholders.
